Section 9: The End Times
Week 2: The Resurrection
Day 5: The Resurrection of the Unrighteous
Rev. 20:1-15
When we think of the resurrection, we typically think in terms of the resurrection of believers. But the Bible teaches that both believers and unbelievers will be raised from the dead after Christ’s return.
Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. The death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” (Rev. 20:11-15).
There is a monumental difference of course in the fate of believers and unbelievers following their resurrections. Everyone will be raised, but not everyone will experience eternal life in God’s presence.
Challenge:
Read Rev. 20:11-13 again.
Reflection Questions:
Have you considered the fact that unbelievers will be resurrected too? How do you think that fits in to God’s plan?
