Life on Mission

1 Peter 2:9-12

9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy

11 Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul. 12 Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.

Application

  • What was your main takeaway from the sermon?
  • Did the Holy Spirit lead you into any situations this week where you had an opportunity to put your takeaway(s) into practice?
  • What impact did those opportunities have on you spiritually?

Discussion Questions

  • In your own words, what does “missional church” mean? How is it different from more traditional models?
  • How can being confident in your identity help you engage in ministry?
  • In what ways can going to church and spending time with other Christians help you to embrace your identity in Christ?
  • In what ways can you proclaim the news of Christ this week? What places do you have unique access to? What audiences are you uniquely platformed to communicate with?
  • Is it easy or hard for you to imagine sharing your faith with others? Explain.
  • Cory said in the sermon that we should have intentionality. We are told to abstain from desires that wage war on our souls. What are some internal struggles that you have that might hinder your missional living?
  • Are there any specific areas of life in which God is calling you to live more intentionally?
