About Us

We are a gospel-centered church in Machesney Park, IL. We originally started as a satellite campus of Central Christian Church and in 2021 we became Park City Church.

We exist to make, mature, and multiply followers of Jesus Christ.

History

2007

An IDEA IS BORN

At the Passion Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, Cory Williams began to sense a call to launch a gospel-centered Church. This idea will sit with him for nearly a decade as he serves as a youth pastor and completes his BS in Biblical Studies and MA in Theology.

2016

Prep to Launch

A proposal was crafted to launch a daughter church of Central in Machesney Park, IL. Cory and Ashley were living in Machesney Park and noticed a church building sitting vacant every Sunday. The leaders of Central agreed to pursue this new initiative.

2017

Launch

We held our first planning meetings at The Hilltop Ministry Center (now Easterseals). When that building became unavailable, we made arrangements to meet at Forest Ridge Events (Hawksview Restaurant/the Curve).

In February of 2017, the launch team began holding preview services in preparation for an April 9th “Grand Opening”.

The Launch was incredibly successful (view photos of the early years here). We consistently saw around 140-150 people in attendance. In the fall, we did a church wide groups-initiative. We had 100 people go through Alpha together. During this season, we were beginning to establish our congregational identity. These were exciting times.

We met at Forest Ridge Events on Forest Hills Rd from February 2017 until May of 2018.

Summer of 2018

CHANGES

At the end of May 2018 our rental contract abruptly ended. Thankfully, we were able to meet at the farm until we could find a new home in Machesney Park (see photos here).

September 2018- March 2020

Harlem Days

We began meeting at Harlem High School in the fall of 2018. These were hard years as the grind of being portable took a toll on our team. Nonetheless, God was kind. We were able to reach new people and see commitments to Christ being made. (See more photos here)

March 15, 2020

COVID-19

Our ability to meet at the High School came to halt in March of 2020. We began broadcasting our services from Williams Tree Farm.

Thankfully, God was very kind to our congregation. We hosted online services, online Bible studies, and online prayer gatherings. The Tree Farm gave us the ability to hold outdoor services when the weather cooperated and we were able to do a “drive in” option too. Eventually, we moved the services indoors.

Because of our strong online presence, we began to attract and retain even more people to our site. It is interesting to note that this is the first point of contact for some of the people who call Park City their church today.
(see photos here).

As time went on, the difficulties of multi-site became pronounced. We were small, local, agile, and missional. This was to our advantage. Remaining a multi-site felt like a limiting factor in our ability to serve our people moving forward.

The idea to separate as a daughter church was re-proposed and agreed upon in the spring of 2021.

2021

re-Launch

We officially became Park City Church on June 16th, 2021. There was incredible excitement and momentum as we launched into this new chapter in the life of our church.

…2021 continued

A New Home

Shortly after becoming Park City Church, an opportunity presented itself. The landmark “Blue Suede Shoes” building became available. You can read more about this move here.

2022-2023

Growth

A building renovation, new visitors, new part-time staff, and more…
(see more photos here)

We finished renovations just in time to hold Easter services in 2022.

Because of the high traffic and visibility of our location, we have seen new people consistently show up to church.

As an organization, we continue to adapt and grow to meet the needs of a growing congregation.

We have successfully run multiple discipleship oriented initiatives to help new people connect with others and take next steps in their faith journey.

…the future

What’s Next?

Simply put, we want to be a healthy church. Our upcoming initiatives and efforts are aimed at helping us care well for the growing congregation.

our Values

Gospel-Centered

We are a gospel-centered church.

We believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ is the very center of the Christian message. We prioritize the gospel as THE matter of first importance.

Word-Driven

We are a word-driven church.

We believe that the Bible sets the agenda for who we are and what we most need. The Bible, then, plays a key role in all that we do together.

Relational

We are a relational church.

We believe that Christianity is meant to be done in community. The relationships between believers is evidence of the beauty and reality of Christ.

Missional

We are a missional church.

The people of God are a missionary people. God sends us out into the world as his representatives. Therefore, we want to equip our people to effectively live life on mission.

Evangelistic

We are an evangelistic church.

Jesus calls us to make disciples (followers of His). We believe the best strategy to accomplish that is for all of us to share the good news of the gospel in the ordinary rhythms and routines of life.

Disciple-making

We are a disciple-making church.

We are committed to helping people become mature followers of Christ. We want the way of Jesus to inform every aspect of how we live.

Spirit-Filled

We are a Spirit-filled church.

We believe the Holy Spirit empowers us for this radical missional living. We have no interest in doing church in our own strength. We desperately need and desire the Holy Spirit.

Worshiping

We are a worshiping church.

People are designed to worship God. We want to help as many people as possible become unceasing worshipers.
